Overview of the FCC License Application ProcessUpdated 2 months ago

Applying for Your FCC Commercial Radio Operator License: A Simple Process

How do I apply for my FCC commercial radio operator license?

Once you have successfully passed the required element exams for the FCC license you are pursuing, we will electronically file your license application with the FCC on your behalf.

Step 1: Email Your Documents

Send the following items to fcctesting@marinerslearningsystem.com:

  1. Your MLS Certificate(s) of Completion for each required FCC Element

    • Important: Missing certificates will cause significant delays in processing your application.

  2. FCC 605 Main Form

    • For item #9, if you don’t already have an FCC Registration Number (FRN), register for one here
    • For item #28, if you checked "Yes", refer to our article on documenting a court conviction for next steps
  3. FCC Form Schedule E

Step 2: Complete the Forms (Only the Sections That Apply)

The FCC forms cover a wide range of license types, so not every field will apply to your situation.

  • Fill out all relevant sections to the best of your ability

  • If a question doesn’t apply or doesn’t make sense for your license type, you may leave it blank

  • We highlight the key items you do need to complete to keep the process simple

Step 3: We’ll Handle the Filing

Once we receive your complete packet:

  • We review your documents

  • If anything is missing or unclear, we will contact you promptly

  • When everything is in order, we submit your application directly to the FCC for processing

Upon approval, you will receive an email from the FCC with instructions on how to pay the issuance fee. These must be paid within 10 business days of application acceptance, or else your application will be dismissed. Read over this article to learn more.
